Celtic Manor Twenty Ten Golf Course overview

Location: Newport, Wales | Style: Parkland | Length: 7,493 yards | Par: 71

Purpose-built to host the 2010 Ryder Cup, the Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor Golf Resort is a true championship layout combining strategy, beauty, and drama in equal measure. Designed by Ross McMurray, it was the first course in history created specifically for golf’s greatest team competition, and it remains one of Europe’s most celebrated modern designs.

Set amid the rolling Usk Valley, the course blends open, with tree-lined holes that demand precision and nerve. Water hazards feature on half of the holes, and the risk-and-reward nature of the layout ensures excitement from start to finish, especially when approaching the closing stretch.

Played by legends including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Graeme McDowell, it continues to host top-level tournaments and delivers a world-class experience for all who step onto its storied fairways.

Course highlights

  • Ryder Cup heritage – The first course ever designed to host the Ryder Cup, offering players the chance to follow in the footsteps of Europe’s 2010 heroes
  • Strategic risk-and-reward design – Lakes and bunkering create bold decisions from tee to green on many holes
  • Tour-level conditioning – Impeccably maintained fairways and greens offering a premium playing surface year-round
  • Spectacular setting – Panoramic views of the Usk Valley and the iconic Twenty Ten Clubhouse enhance the sense of occasion

Signature Holes

The 14th hole epitomises the course's drama and decision-making. This demanding par 4 dares players to take on a bold line over water down the right for a shorter approach, or to play safely left, leaving a longer, nerve-testing shot over another lake.

Clubhouse & amenities

Golfers are welcomed at the luxurious Twenty Ten Clubhouse, a purpose-built facility exclusive to players of the course. Highlights include:

  • Player lockers from the 2010 Ryder Cup, each still bearing the names of the world’s best
  • The Members’ Lounge and Restaurant, serving Welsh and international cuisine with sweeping views over the 18th green
  • State-of-the-art practice facilities, including a double-ended driving range, short game area, and putting greens
  • On-course Halfway House, overlooking lake-lined fairways for a scenic mid-round break

Did You Know?

  • The Twenty Ten Course hosted Europe’s historic 2010 Ryder Cup victory, where Graeme McDowell secured the winning point in dramatic fashion.
  • Each hole name on the course pays homage to a Ryder Cup venue or moment, reinforcing its deep connection to the competition.
