Ile Aux Cerfs
Mauritius
Ile Aux Cerfs Golf Course overview
Location: Mauritius | Style: Tropical island | Par: 72 | Designer: Bernhard Langer | Opened: 2003
Nestled on a private island off Mauritius’ east coast, the Île aux Cerfs Golf Club delivers a rare combination: lush tropical serenity, ocean views, and a challenging championship-standard course.
Routed across about 38 hectares of island terrain - volcanic outcrops, lagoons, mangroves and undulating topography - the 18-hole par-72 layout is a testament to Langer’s vision of blending strategy with natural beauty.
From white-sand beaches to shimmering lagoons and palm-lined fairways, every round feels more like a tropical escape than just a golf outing. The subtle elevation changes, narrow fairways, and small, undulating greens demand precision, while ocean and lagoon views punctuate several holes, making the setting as memorable as the challenge.
Course highlights
- Island-only access: The course sits on its own island - accessible only via a boat shuttle from Pointe Maurice or even by helicopter.
- Scenic tropical setting: Holes weave through volcanic outcrops, mangroves, lakes, and lush vegetation with ocean or lagoon glimpses almost everywhere.
- Championship-standard challenge: With narrow fairways, tight holes, and small greens, the course rewards strategy and shot-making over brute force.
Signature Holes
Hole 11 is a long par-5 and is constantly considered a signature hole at Ile aux Cerfs. The hole presents a strong challenge and features a right-angled dogleg and a large fairway leading up to a sizeable green.
The setting - sea views, lush tropical surroundings, and island-style layout - helps make the hole particularly memorable.
Post Round
The island offers pristine beaches, crystal-clear lagoon water, and a relaxed, resort-style feel. Guests often complement their round with a meal at the clubhouse, a stroll in tropical surroundings, or simply lounging by the beach.
For non-golfing companions, there are other attractions: snorkeling, island beaches, and leisurely boat rides - making Île aux Cerfs a full-fledged island escape, not just a golf destination.
Did You Know?
The only access to the golf course (and the island) is via a boat shuttle from the mainland (or by helicopter if you’re arriving in style) - making arrival part of the charm.
