With over 23 championship courses situated on the island, crafted by renowned designers such as Pete Dye, Rees Jones, Robert Trent Jones, and Jack Nicklaus, there are few regions in America that boast such an impressive choice. We've even written an article about the best golf courses in Hilton Head.
Harbour Town Golf Links Hilton Head Island's most prestigious golf destination, Harbour Town Golf Links. A renowned fixture on the PGA TOUR's calendar since 1969, serving as the venue for the RBC Heritage Tournament. Crafted by Pete Dye, with input from Jack Nicklaus, this course requires pinpoint accuracy, featuring small greens, abundant water hazards, and strategically positioned overhanging branches.
Hilton Head National Golf Club Gary Player collaborated with acclaimed architect Bobby Weed to design the challenging Hilton Head National Golf Club. It offers ample opportunities for risk and reward, shown on the signature 6th hole. A par-4 guarded by a treacherous lagoon on the right, and deep pot bunkers on the left. Unlike many courses in the area, there are no residences overlooking this layout, allowing natural vegetation and wildlife to flourish.
Oyster Reef Golf Club Voted the 'Favorite Course of Hilton Head Island', Oyster Reef Golf Club is a superb inclusion in any golf getaway on the island. Designed by Rees Jones and situated across 190 acres of low-country terrain, this 18-hole championship course is surrounded by lush vegetation, winding lagoons, and sweeping views of the island, making it an excellent choice for a South Carolina golf vacation.
Barony Course The Barony Course, built during the 1960s, stands as one of the earliest golf layouts on the island. George W. Cobb designed this course with compact greens shielded by dense rough and unforgiving bunkers, demanding a strong short game. Great course management is essential on this course, given its narrow landing areas and abundance of hazards ready to catch any stray shots.
Stay and play in Hilton Head
Unrivalled stay & play golf resorts at Hilton Head
With the array of luxurious resorts, accommodation on the island is unparalleled. Offering stylish and elegant hotel-style rooms, lavish spas, and outdoor swimming pools to cool down in after a day on the sun-soaked fairways.
Sea Pines Resort Year in and year out, Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Resort is talked about as one of the PGA TOUR players’ favorite stops thanks to its incredible conditioning. Interestingly, it’s one of only a handful of PGA TOUR regular stops not won by Tiger Woods. A Pete Dye design with assistance from Jack Nicklaus, Harbour Town Golf Links is surely one to tick off the bucket list.
Joining the famed course at Sea Pines Resort are the Heron Point and Atlantic Dunes layouts. In fact, Atlantic Dunes is the oldest course on the island and one of two Hilton Head courses with holes that play along the ocean. With all three fabulous courses onsite, Sea Pines Resort is an ideal location for a stay-and-play trip.
Palmetto Dunes In addition to Sea Pines Resort, the three courses at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort are considered by many to be equally challenging and enjoyable. Play at either the George Fazio course, the Arthur Hills course, or the Robert Trent Jones Course, the second course on the island that has holes next to the ocean.
Also, a part of the Palmetto Dunes community is the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort. Located on the southeast coastline of Hilton Head Island, this resort is one of South Carolina's most premium destinations where you can also play some of the Island's favorite courses! Packages here include the Robert Trent Jones course, the George Fazio course, and the Arthur Hills course.
For larger groups or those wanting a "home away from home" experience, the homes and villas at Sea Pines Resort and Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort should not be overlooked, both offering unmatched hospitality and service with your own private kitchen, living room, separate bedrooms, and outdoor seating area.
