Hanbury Manor Course overview
Length: 7,052 yards | Par: 72 | Opened: 1990
Set amidst 200 acres of historic Hertfordshire parkland, the Hanbury Manor Golf Course delivers a quintessential English countryside golf experience. Originally laid out by the legendary Harry Vardon and later reimagined by Jack Nicklaus II, this mature parkland course is a former host of all four European Tours since opening in 1990. Most recently, the hotel has welcomed the Legends Tour in 2023 and 2024, hosted by Simon Khan and Paul Lawrie, respectively. With it's rolling fairways and breath-taking views, the hotel is proud to be home to one of the finest golf courses in South East England.
With its rolling terrain, grand tree-lined fairways, and tournament-grade greens, Hanbury Manor Mariott Hotel & Country Club combines old-world charm with modern championship standards, making it a great option for any golf holiday in England. A round here is as scenic as it is strategically demanding.
Course overview
Hanbury Manor’s design balances aesthetic beauty with competitive edge. Sweeping fairways wind through ancient woodland, with numerous water hazards, well-placed bunkers, and undulating greens that challenge shot placement and course strategy. Though generously sized off the tee, the course rewards thoughtful play and a sharp short game.
Maintained to PGA European Tour standards, the course plays beautifully throughout the year and is a popular venue for both competitive and leisure golf.
Clubhouse & Practice facilities
Hanbury Manor features a full range of practice amenities including a driving range, putting green, chipping area, and access to PGA professional coaching. Whether you're warming up before your round or honing your skills, the facilities provide everything you need for a focused session.
Housed within a 17th-century Jacobean manor, the elegant clubhouse offers panoramic views across the estate. Guests can enjoy international cuisine at Cast Iron Grill, unwind with a drink and light bites at Vardon’s overlooking the course, or indulge in the timeless tradition of afternoon tea in Oak Hall. The pro shop is fully stocked with premium equipment, apparel, and expert advice.
Signature Holes
Among the standout holes are the par-4 8th, which demands a pinpoint approach over water, and the par-5 18th, a risk-reward finishing hole that tempts big hitters with its long carry and well-defended green. The layout culminates in a dramatic final stretch, offering opportunities for both glory and heartbreak.
Post Round
After your round, relax on the terrace overlooking the 18th green, or enjoy seasonal fare in one of the hotel’s two dining outlets. For a longer stay, the hotel offers rejuvenating spa facilities, country walks, and easy access to nearby attractions like Hatfield House, Hertfordshire Zoo, Lee Valley Park or the historic towns of Hertford and St Albans.
