The Dominican Republic has the proud honor of being the Caribbean’s premier golf destination, not only because of the numerous quality resorts which dot the island, but also due to it being a hotbed for some of golf’s most renowned course architects. These designers let their imaginations run wild with the blank canvas this nation offers, leading to some truly legendary designs and layouts.
The Teeth of the Dog course at Casa de Campo is one of the island’s finest examples. Designed by Pete Dye, the course boasts some of the Dominican Republic’s best views and most iconic holes, with Pete Dye even going as far to say "I created 11 holes and God created seven."
The Lakes Barceló Golf Course at Barceló Bávaro Beach is another fine example and excellent contrast of styles with the Teeth of the Dog. The Lakes Barceló Golf Course is an inland course whose fairways are lined with mangroves, meaning accuracy is absolutely vital to score well. Pete Dye designed this course to make use and show off the beautiful inland features of the island with no less than 25 lakes protecting aspects of this course.
