Fota Island Resort
Fota Island Resort overview
The magnificent 5-star Fota Island Resort is one of the top properties in southern Ireland. Situated just 20 minutes east of Cork city on over 780-acres of beautiful parkland, there is a real sense of solitude and peace. The quality of the rooms and facilities is exceptional along with 27-holes of championship golf onsite.
With 27-holes there are a variety of layouts you can play. The Deerpark Course is a combination of the original 18 holes and is the most popular having hosted the Irish Open on several occasions. The Belvelly and Barryscourt Courses are the other combinations that you can play. Always in wonderful condition and very different from the mighty links courses that Ireland is known for. Close by is also Cork Golf Club and the world-famous Old Head Golf Links is an hour away.
Fota Island Resort is a relatively new build and offers its guests luxurious accommodation in stunning woodland surroundings. The hotel offers 123 modern ensuite bedrooms which are a mix of Classic and Deluxe Rooms as well as 8 penthouse suites for that step-up in luxury.
All standard rooms have air conditioning, a safe, flat-screen TV, bar facilities and some even have a private balcony. The luxury penthouse suites have all of this and more, with the addition of a private living room, private balcony and a state-of-the-art entertainment system.
For families and golfing groups, there are also some luxury self-catering lodges on property, which provide the perfect home away from home.
Restaurant & Bars
The Fota Island Resort offers a range of dining options for guests with a high focus on using fresh, local produce. The Amber Lounge is an all-day restaurant with an outdoor terrace serving freshly prepared lunches and relaxed, bistro-style evening meals. With its excellent resort views, this is also a pleasant place to come for an evening drink.
Fota Restaurant, the flagship restaurant on the property offers an extensive à la carte dinner menu using the region’s delicious seasonal ingredients and is also where breakfast is served.
Eating at the golf club provides another option, where guests can enjoy a more casual setting, whether it be classic clubhouse meals or food from the grill outside.
Spa & Leisure
The Fota Island Resort is home to a luxury spa including 18 treatment rooms and an indoor heated swimming pool, relaxation area and Hydrotherapy Suite. A fully equipped gym and fitness suite is also available as well as a tennis club.
Conveniently positioned 20 minutes east of the city of Cork, Fota Island Resort is also just 20 minutes from Cork Airport. For international access from other locations, Dublin Airport is 3 hours away and Shannon Airport is 2 hours.
On Site Activities
The resort makes effective use of the vast size of the property by offering outdoor activities such as archery, orienteering and a custom-built obstacle course. These can be booked for individuals or groups.
The Clubhouse is the best place to go after a round with The Spike Bar conveniently located opposite the 18th island green of the Deerpark Course. A great place for light snacks before the round or for when you return for some excellent après golf cuisine. Resort guests should also check out the popular BBQ terrace at The Clubhouse during summer where chefs serve up superb grilled dishes and summer salads.
There are 27-holes at Fota Island Resort with the Deerpark Course being the flagship 18 and made up from the original course that opened in 1993. It is an excellent parkland layout played through rolling woodlands of the 780-acre estate, and with stunning views across Cork Harbor. It has hosted multiple European Tour Irish Opens over the years and considered one of Ireland’s finest inland tracks, which is reflected by a consistent ranking amongst the country’s top 50 courses.
