Pine Needles Overview

The Pine Needles course, a Donald Ross-design is the first course in the country to be granted four U.S. Women’s Opens. Ross created the course in 1927, with Kyle Franz making some advancements in 2007. Franz added some length whilst keeping the overall feel in line with the original Ross design. Rolling hills, strategic fairway bunkering, and huge pines define the course. Voted by Golfweek as the #4 course in the state it is truly a ‘must-play’.

Signature Holes at Pine Needles

The relatively short par-3 3rd hole plays over water and is heavily protected by five bunkers. Sloping sharply back to front the putting surface is a slippery one. At only 145 yards this hole is certainly no push-over and one remembered by all.

The 17th is a tough par-4, long at 461 yards it doglegs around the pines to the left. Ideally, you need to move your tee-shot a little from right to left to get in the best position for the downhill approach to the green. A four on your scorecard is a great result here.
