Sea Trail Byrd Course overview
Style: Parkland / Coastal Marshland | Length: 6,750 yards | Par: 72 | Architect: Willard Byrd | Opened: 1990
The Byrd Course at Sea Trail Golf Resort is a scenic, strategic layout designed by renowned Southern architect Willard Byrd. Blending classic parkland design with coastal marshland beauty, this course challenges players with elevated greens, bold bunkering, and forced carries over natural wetlands.
Set among towering Carolina pines and winding creeks, the Byrd Course is a shot-maker’s test. Precision and smart course management are rewarded over pure distance, making it a favorite for experienced players and those who appreciate risk-reward golf. Shifting breezes, large undulating greens, and water in play on multiple holes create a round that’s both refined and memorable.
The Byrd Course complements the bold Jones Course and the relaxed, player-friendly Maples Course, completing Sea Trail’s trio of distinct coastal layouts.
Clubhouse & amenities
The Byrd Course shares access to Sea Trail’s full-service clubhouse, complete with a grill restaurant, bar, and outdoor patio. A spacious pro shop offers apparel, gear, and local course insight.
Practice facilities include a driving range, putting greens, and a chipping area, ideal for warm-ups or short game work.
Signature Holes
- Hole 5 – Par 4: One of the most picturesque holes on the course, with a tee shot that must carry a coastal marsh to a narrow fairway lined by trees. A well-placed drive sets up an approach to a raised, bunkered green.
- Hole 13 – Par 3: A scenic one-shot hole over water to a wide but shallow green, often affected by swirling breezes. Club selection is critical, and any miss left is wet.
- Hole 16 – Par 5: A classic risk-reward par 5 with a double-dogleg fairway and water cutting across near the green. Big hitters can attempt the green in two, but misjudged aggression can quickly lead to a big number.
Post Round
After your round, unwind at the clubhouse bar or patio with a cold drink and casual fare. Or take a short drive to Sunset Beach or Calabash for fresh seafood and coastal charm.
Or why not make the short drive down to Myrtle Beach for even more fantastic golf!
The Byrd Course pairs perfectly with the bold, tournament-ready Jones Course and the scenic, player-friendly Maples Course. Together, they form Sea Trail Golf Resort’s trio of distinct layouts, each offering a unique experience, and all set against the backdrop of North Carolina’s beautiful coastal landscape.
