Snow Mountain Course
at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
Las Vegas, USA
Snow Mountain Course overview
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada | Style: Desert | Length: ~7,146 yards (from back tees) | Par: 72 |
The Snow Mountain Course is the original 18-hole layout at Paiute Golf Resort, unveiled in 1995 and designed by Pete Dye. The Snow Mountain, Sun Mountain and Wolf courses combine to create a stunning 54-hole golf club.
Nestled about 25 minutes northwest of the Las Vegas Strip, the course presents a majestic desert setting with dramatic views of the nearby Sheep Mountains. Instead of tight urban surroundings, Snow Mountain immerses you in wide fairways of winter ryegrass, shimmering water features and Dye’s signature “railroad-tie” bunkering.
Though it offers serious challenge from the back tees, the design also brings a level of playability: generous landing areas early, multiple teeing options for all skill levels, and a finishing stretch that asks something special of the golfer. For the golf-traveller seeking a premium Las Vegas golf experience that doesn’t feel like the Strip, Snow Mountain delivers premium conditioning, strategic interest and desert tranquillity.
Snow Mountain is ranked in Golf Digest's Top 20 Golf Courses in Nevada list.
Course highlights
- Seven holes where water comes into play - adds a visible and strategic element throughout the layout.
- Wide rye fairways offer generous tee shot zones, allowing more comfort for mid-handicappers while preserving the challenge.
- The finishing holes (16,-17,-18) are heralded for their strong design, with water hazards, dramatic bunkering and desert vistas.
- Recognised as one of Nevada’s top public-access courses, and the most playable of the three at Paiute for many golfers.
- All holes have been routed without any residential development lining them (no homes on property), giving a pure golf experience.
Signature hole
One of the most striking holes is the par-3 No. 16: playing around circa 190-200 yards (depending on tee), the shot carries water onto a peninsula green with the Sheep Mountains rising behind. It’s described as “the best par-3” on the property.
This hole encapsulates the premium setting, natural beauty and strategic demand that the course offers.
Post Round
After finishing your round, you can unwind in the clubhouse’s dining area with views over the desert and mountains. The outdoor terrace offers a perfect vantage for discussing your last two holes. With no residential clutter around the course, the ambience remains open and natural - ideal for post-round relaxation.
