Designed by William Bell, Sr. in 1957, the South Course at Torrey Pines is widely considered one of the best and most challenging courses in the United States. Redesigned by famous golf architect Rees Jones in 2001 and again in 2019, the South Course plays just under 7700 yards from the tips, however, five tee boxes are available, making it a great experience for all.

Despite its difficulty, players will undoubtedly enjoy the picturesque natural landscape of San Diego and the Pacific Ocean from its elevated position. Tree-lined fairways and thick rough put a premium on driving the ball well while heavily protected greens and undulating putting surfaces test the short game. It is no surprise that the South Course is an annual stop on the PGA TOUR’s calendar and host to the 2008 and 2021 U.S. Open.

Signature Holes

The signature hole on the South Course at Torrey Pines is the par-3 3rd. This picturesque hole plays severely downhill and measures in at 198 yards from the tips. A well-guarded green and swirling winds make club selection of the utmost importance. Despite its difficulty, players will enjoy uninhibited views of the gorgeous Pacific Ocean.
