Royal Troon Golf Club overview
Royal Troon Golf Club founded in 1878 by some enthusiastic locals was originally a 5-hole golf course until subsequent lengthening and improvements by Willie Fernie and then later James Braid turned it into the course recognized today.
Located on the South West coast of Scotland near Prestwick (45 minutes’ drive from Glasgow), Royal Troon has been a regular Open Championship host since 1923. The historical links has seen some of the greats of the game win The Open here over the years with players such as Bobby Locke, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson lifting the trophy at Troon.

Old Course
Royal Troon, a current Open Championship venue is one of the best links courses in the UK & Ireland. Situated on the south-west coast of Scotland near Prestwick, it was founded in 1878 by some golf-loving locals, with subsequent improvements by Willie Fernie and then later James Braid to create what is today. A traditional out and back links course, it has been a major championship venue since 1923, offering one of The Open’s sterner challenges to the professionals.
Portland Course
The Portland Course, originally designed by the Troon professional William Fernie, winner of the Open Championship in 1883, was opened in 1895 and subsequently redesigned by Dr Alister MacKenzie in the early 1920s.
