Championship Course overview

The name Carnoustie resonates with golfers around the world for its history in hosting The Open. More specifically it is the Championship Course at Carnoustie which is the celebrated course at this links facility. Carnoustie differs from the other links courses on The Open rota as rarely do you have views of the ocean from the course however it is widely regarded as the toughest of The Open Championship venues.

Golfers are recommended to bring their A-game to this links course which measures 6948-yards from the championship tees. Particularly the brutal finishing holes that include a 245-yard par-3 16th followed by two 400-yard plus par-4’s, which have golfers crossing the Barry Burn (a creek that runs through the property) no less than five times.

Due to being located within an easy driving distance of the town of St Andrews, this course proves to be a very popular venue year after year which is aided by the fact tee times are much easier to access than many of the other Open Championship venues. Caddies are also available which we recommend taking as they will certainly enhance the overall experience.

Signature hole

The par-4 18th hole is one of the best finishing holes in golf. Known around the world for the chaos it caused in the final round of the 1999 Open Championship where Jean Van de Velde blew a 3-shot lead to go into a playoff that he lost to Scotland’s Paul Lawrie. The main feature of the hole is the infamous Barry Burn which snakes its way across and adjacent to the fairway, intimidating even the world’s best golfers. A par here is a superb effort.
