Plantation Course
at The Lodge at Sea Island

Sea Island, USA

Plantation Course overview

Originally a nine-hole course inspired by Walter Travis in 1928, the Plantation Course has had several designers work on its layout. Rees Jones in 1998 and more recently the Love brothers (Davis and Mark) completed a year-long project at the end of 2019.

Rees Jones called this course a ‘parkland by the sea’ because of its amazing combination of views of the Atlantic Ocean and the spectacular inland scenery.

This tree-lined parkland layout has relatively wide fairways and generous greens making it extremely playable for all golfers. The course has numerous ancient oak and cedar trees, and there is danger to be found in its tidal creeks and lakes. It is a must-play for any golf fanatics who want to experience a truly unique challenge.

Signature Holes

The 18th at Sea Island’s Plantation Course is a reachable par-5, and a great finish to the round – it is a birdie or even an eagle opportunity, however, there’s plenty of danger along the way. The water off the tee will only affect the longest hitters but as it then hugs the entire length of the left side of the hole, it comes into play for all second and third shots. Great on the eye, and an excellent finishing hole.
