Narin & Portnoo Links

Donegal, Ireland

Narin & Portnoo Links overview

Narin & Portnoo Links sits majestically on the North West coast of Ireland, in an area filled with archaeological treasures such as pre-historic tombs and Bronze-Age forts that date back four or five thousand years. A powerful and spiritual place that the ancient Celts believed to be the ‘edge of the world’.

Golf has been played on the links since 1905 and in 2018 the new owners hired Hanse Golf Design to completely renovate and upgrade the course. The result is breath-taking and Hanse himself says ‘this is our first chance to focus on a piece of ground that was created by nature. We are fortunate to work on some top golf courses around the world but there is something romantic about this'.

With tight doglegs, cavernous terrain, raised greens and twisting fairways, players will need to have their wits about them if they’re looking to score well. Plus the magnificent setting in such natural surroundings can be a distraction in itself.

Narin & Portnoo Golf Course overview

Although golf here dates back to 1905, the course was originally formed as a 9-hole course in 1930 and later extended to the full 18-holes in 1960. Often considered to be one of the most natural, untouched golf courses in the whole of Ireland, the course hasn’t received the recognition it truly deserves over the years, but that is about to change following the masterful renovation by Hanse Golf Design.

Just shy of 6600 yards off the tips and a par-71, Narin & Portnoo is one of the most interesting and fun true links courses that you can play.

Signature Holes

The signature hole at Narin & Portnoo Links is the sensational par-3 7th Hole. Measuring at 143-yards, players have to tee off over a chasm to a two-tiered green which is located on an adjacent sand hill. The hole is beloved for its supreme natural beauty and tricky green which requires focused putting.
