Glashedy Course overview
The newer of the two championship links courses at Ballyliffin, the Glashedy Links is a Pat Ruddy design that opened in 1995 and turned the club into possibly the finest links complex in Ireland.
Ranked amongst Ireland’s top 10 courses and having played host to the European Tour’s 2018 Irish Open, the Glashedy owes a lot to Ruddy and the experience he drew upon from his other links masterpiece at The European. Ballyliffin is often referred to as ‘the Ballybunion of the North’ or ‘the Dornoch of Ireland’ due to the fact that these courses are all set amidst towering natural sand dunes.
At just under 7500 yards off the tips, the Glashedy Links is a real test with nine brutal par-4s in excess of 400 yards. The huge greens have serious undulations and are well protected by bunkers, so you definitely need to have your A-game to play anywhere close to your handicap.
Rather like the Old Links, the signature hole on the Glashedy is also a par-3. The 7th is 175 yards and plays from an elevated tee box some 120 feet above the green to a kidney-shaped putting surface surrounded by towering dunes.
Did You Know?
The name ‘Glashedy’ is named after the big Rock that sits out in the Atlantic in full view from the courses and is Ballyliffin’s equivalent of Turnberry’s Ailsa Craig.
