More about The Open Championship 2022

The Old Course at St Andrews is possibly the most famous golf course in the world and constantly ranked among the best. It is rich in history and tradition, with The Royal and Ancient Club created in 1754. The Clubhouse stands next to the 1st tee and 18th green, providing an impressive backdrop to the final hole. With greats such as Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Seve Ballesteros winning here, it is clear class prevails on the Old Course.

With so many famous holes on the Old Course, it can be difficult to pick out a single signature hole. However, the 17th ‘Road Hole’ is a good bet. With the tee shot being played over the Old Course Hotel, the more aggressive line is rewarded with a better angle to the green. However, with a long iron approach required to a narrow green backing onto the road, it is easy to see why this is regarded as one of the hardest par 4’s in golf.

What to do while in Edinburgh

The beautiful Edinburgh is a must-see city when visiting Scotland with its mix of medieval Old Town areas and elegant Georgian New Town parts. Located about an hour and a half away from St Andrews and Dundee, it’s easy to fit in a day or two in Edinburgh between playing other courses in the surrounding areas.

Arthur’s Seat offers a panoramic view of the city center, with its 820 foot height, creating the perfect angle for photos of the magnificent city. Alternatively, Edinburgh Castle also stands above the Old Town, with the natural design and beauty making it an essential tourist stop when in the city. The journey to the castle, otherwise known as the Royal Mile, takes visitors through the historic Old Town, with the stunning cobbled layout emphasizing the elegance of the city.

Along the Royal Mile, visitors can dive into the Scotch Whisky experience and embrace why Edinburgh is so famous for making this spirit. Alternatively, you can take part in the guided walking tours, visiting the best whisky bars in the city or for a more in-depth experience, go to the distillery tour around the Southern Highlands.

Things to do in St Andrews

St Andrews lives and breathes golf, with no less than 10 top-quality courses in the town, including the famous Old Course. Golf is what makes the town tick.

However, there is more to St Andrews than just the golf. Set next to the long sandy beaches that protect the North Sea, St Andrews is rich in history for such a small piece of land. Visiting St Andrews Cathedral is a must for any visitor; explore the remains of this magnificent building, which was once the largest church in Scotland. The University of St Andrews is the third oldest university in the UK and is another good location for tourists to explore.

Our customers say...

"I would like to say what a brilliant time me and my friends had in Belfast. The girls on the Golfbreaks desk were very welcoming and couldn't do enough to help you and very hard working. The golf was amazing and with Shane Lowry winning was the icing on the cake. I would definitely recommend using golf breaks and will definitely be using them again in the near future. "
