I’m a huge fan of the Portuguese people and their lifestyle. As someone who’s lived and worked in Lisbon, I like to think I know many of the best spots to eat, where to relax on late summer evenings and the best attractions this historic capital has to offer.

For some reason, I’ve never played golf in Lisbon. So, when the opportunity arose to experience Lisbon’s Golf Coast first-hand and film it for everyone to see, I seized the opportunity! I hope you enjoy the ‘Golfer’s Guide to Lisbon' video above.

I can now honestly say Lisbon is one of my favourite places to play golf. Plus, there is a huge variety of things to do off the course, so anyone who decides to head to Lisbon instead of the Algarve, won’t be disappointed!

Hopefully, you saw from the video it’s not just about the golf (often right on the Atlantic Ocean), it’s the full experience that makes Lisbon so good. Outstanding hospitality, great food, culture and year-round summer vibes - it really is incomparable to any other golfing destination I’ve been to.

Spencers top tips:

Favourite Lisbon golf courses: West Cliffs, Oitavos Dunes, Praia D'El Rey & Penha Longa.

Top places to explore: I’d recommend discovering the nearby historic towns of Sintra and Cascais. Standing on top of the Sintra mountains 1,800 feet above sea level, you’ll see the colourful Pena palace with its stunning backdrop overlooking all of Lisbon. Downtown Lisbon is a great place for outdoor dining, with bars and restaurants open until late.

Trip highlight: While photographing the Links holes along the Mediterranean Sea at Praia D’El Rey, it was quiet and all I could hear was the waves as they crashed against the rocks. The sunset seemed to last forever - my new favourite place to watch the sun go down!
