Golf in the Golden Gate city

Golf in San Francisco has been played since the late 1800s with a rich vein of golfing heritage garnered over the generations. Nowadays, many of the courses here belong to private members clubs, however, we’ve hand-selected some of our favourites for a golf break to San Francisco.

The stunning Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay sits upon a cliff, looking out over the beautiful blue Pacific Ocean. The two courses here were designed by Arthur Hills and Arnold Palmer and are ideal resort layouts, offering variety, stunning views, and ease of playability for golfers of all abilities. Whilst the Ocean Course provides a classic links layout bordering the Pacific, the fairways on the parkland-style Old Course are lined with cypress trees, with accuracy off the tee at a premium.

Further north, in the heart of the world-famous Napa Valley, the Silverado Resort offers everything you need for a truly resplendent golfing holiday. Wine tasting, incredible surroundings and, of course, two fantastic golf courses – what more could you need?! The North Course was a previous PGA TOUR venue, with its strategic layout and impressive bunkered enough to test golfers of all abilities. The South has an equally impressive history, playing host to the Champions Tour for many years. The course offers a thoroughly enjoyable test of golf as it rolls through the beautiful Napa countryside. For those looking to stretch their legs even further, both of these resorts offer the perfect base from which you can explore other courses in Northern California, notably the plethora of incredible layouts in Monterey, including the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Discover amazing San Francisco

San Francisco is recognised as being one of the most iconic cities across the world, however, it is also the perfect base for a golf break in California. There are several superb courses and just less than 2 hours from the famed Monterey Peninsula, home to the likes of Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill.

The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay boasts two excellent golf courses. The Ocean Course was designed by Arthur Hills, offering a true links layout with undulating terrain and fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean. The Old Course offers an equally great challenge and was designed by Arnold Palmer in 1973. Both courses offer great views over the ocean and provide rounds that will live long in the memory.
