    Dundonald Links Details

    Dundonald Links introduction

Formerly known as Southern Gailes, this classic links was designed by Kyle Phillips. It has been hailed as an equal to Kingsbarns and has been recognised as one of the best new courses in the world.

    Dundonald Links information

    18 holes, 72 par, 7300 yards. Links.

Formerly known as Southern Gailes, this superb new course sits in prime links land adjacent to Western Gailes with Glasgow Gailes to the north and Kilmarnock Brassie to the south. It has been hailed as an equal to Kingsbarns and unsurprisingly, was designed by Kyle Phillips. A classic links, it has been recognised as one of the best new courses in the world (Robb Report 2004). Phillips’ aim was to create a championship course that played and felt like an old rediscovered course and most observers believe he’s accomplished this.

Superb course well worth a visit. You will not be disappointed. Modern links with superb greens and well constructed holes.

Smashing course (from what we could see!) unfortunately weather was awful, very, very strong winds and almost unrelenting rain (mid August) rather spoilt things but we're eager to return to experience in more friendly conditions.

Course is the one of the best condition wise I've played in recent years, but I'd expect that given the time of our round between the men's and ladies Scottish open. Obviously the big issue we had was the pace of play which was atrocious, I'm never one to complain about this but 5.5 hours for a 2 ball is a joke and to say we finished our last 4 holes as a 5 ball with three member playing behind us ended up just playing with us due to the crazy hold up in front. On top of that due to the hold up one of the guys that joined up ended up having a verbal confrontation with one of the groups in front, I can totally understand as I felt his frustration given the hold up had been since the 7th hole, a four ball didn't seem to be giving any way or consideration to groups behind and this should have been addressed by the caddies in the groups or even sorted out at the turn, with the 10th tee being right in front of the clubhouse (cabin). It put a real downer on our round as the course was superb but the management team need to look at this especially with the amount of visitors playing as this really has put me off returning to Dundonald.
