Green and lake two

Sotogrande

18 holes, 72 par, 6894 yards. Parkland.

This was the first European course designed by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones Snr. and was voted the second best course in Spain by Golf Digest Magazine. It is the lakes, fast greens and the strong winds that make this track a real challenge to the best of players, although, it does have wide fairways and short rough that allow you to make use of the driver. With virtually every green surrounded by bunkers, you'll need to be accurate with your irons if you're to score well.

Alcornoques Lake View

Almenara

27 holes, 72 par, 6795 yards. Parkland with lakes.

Enjoy these three excellent nine-hole loops, all superbly maintained and providing narrow rolling fairways with fast slick greens. The tightest of the three is Los Pinos (Lakes), with tree-lined fairways taking much of the limelight. Los Lagos (Lakes) has, you guessed it, a series of water hazards on its route and finally Los Alcornoques (Corn Oaks), which hosts some the most dramatic holes

Alcaidesa Links

18 holes, 72 par, 5978 yards. Links.

This fantastic course was designed by Peter Allis and Clive Clark, and is one of only a few true links courses in the country. It is truly reminiscent of a classic Scottish seaside layout, complete with heather and gorse bushes. There have been some recent improvements made to make it suitable for all handicappers; the fairways have been improved and widened while the greens have been levelled off. You are also treated to some magnificent views over the Mediterranean to Gibraltar and on a clear day you can see the Atlas Mountains in North Africa.

Teeing Off

Alcaidesa Heathland

18 holes, 72 par, 6671 yards. Heathland.

This new course designed by Dave Thomas offers a variety of natural landscapes, ranging from the plateau area (holes 1 to 5 & 17 & 18 ) where the course has the feel of a Heathland course with wide fairways and outstanding views of the Mediterranean sea, as well as the local mountain ranges (including the sierra Nevada), to the river valley where the holes meander along the valley and incorporate various water features/hazards.

Valderrama

18 holes, 71 par, 6948 yards. Parkland.

This world famous championship course was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Snr. and played host to the Ryder Cup in 1997. It was listed as the number one in Spain by Golf Digest Magazine (USA) in 2005 and is filled with prestige. Each hole has six tees and was made with all handicappers in mind but the crosswinds make it tough to conquer from any of the tees. It is kept in immaculate condition and provides a challenging round every time. The par five 17th is the signature hole as it features strategically placed bunkers behind a green that slopes forwards to an emerald lake. It has been the scene of many a title won and lost.
