Shendish Manor Golf Course Details

Golf at Shendish Manor Golf Club

One of the golf venues in Hertfordshire, Shendish Manor is famed for its challenging, tree-lined layout. Built to full USGA specifications, it's always in magnificent condition.

Shendish Manor Golf Course

18 holes, 70 par, 5660 yards. Parkland / Woodland.

Designed to full USGA specifications, Shendish Manor Golf Course meanders through both a parkland and woodland setting with a variety of challenging hazards. The undulating fairways are tree-lined and tight and will penalise those who are not accurate off the tee. The first seven holes are shorter and flatter so you'll want to score well here before moving onto the harder eleven holes which introduce hills and doglegs. Accuracy is key to getting round all 18 holes with a good score at Shendish Manor.

Shendish Manor Golf Course Location

Shendish Manor is off Junction 20 on the M25. Alternatively, the nearest train station is Apsley which is around 1 mile from the hotel and Luton airport is 14 miles away if you are flying in.

There isn't really a pro-shop, just a check in desk. There are no practice facilities to speak of and they don't hire out electric trolleys. Unfortunately the first day was the day we had one month's rain in one day. However, we went out and played in it. There was no other golfer on the course that day but we had a good round and enjoyed it. We were impressed that all the greens were well drained and playable. The course was quite good apart from the tee boxes which all were bare or had weeds growing all over them (especially the Ladies tees). Otherwise the golf was good. On the second day, a roll up had gone out in the morning off two sets of tees and although our tee time was 10am, we had to wait and let about three games go through to keep the roll up together. I thought that a bit strange as I am used to slotting in. It was a nice sunny day so we were fine waiting around until they had gone through.

Course is short. Many par 4s less than 300 yards and first 7 holes are fairly featureless and unchallenging. Course was well worn and some areas incl greens 'threadbare', tho mid-late summer so presumably lots of traffic. Bunker sand was impressive, a feature with which many courses struggle. The course disappointed initially but grew on me after 2 or 3 rounds. 'Clubhouse' is essentially a very small bar with very limited seating.

Although the course was enjoyable and some great golf holes the course itself was a bit 'Scruffy'. The tee's were poor (very bald in places) and the greens were a little bit slow, albeit running very true.
We really enjoyed the course but with just a little bit more attention to detail it could move from a 7 to a 9 quite easily.
