Formby Golf Club

18 holes, 72 par, 6993 yards. Links / Woodland.

Founded in 1884, Formby lays claim to the toughest par 3s' to be found anywhere, with accuracy and concentration being the prerequisites for every hole. Heather and rough form a natural boundary to the undulating fairways and combine with bunkers, sandhills and firm fast greens to provide a great test. The golf club has a distinguished record for hosting many top amateur events, including The Amateur in 1984 when Jose-Maria Olazabal beat Colin Montgomerie in the final.

Formby Hall Golf Club, Lancashire

Formby Hall Golf Course

18 holes, 72 par, 7002 yards. Parkland with lakes.

Formby Golf Club consists of an excellent parkland course on England’s golf coast. The golf course was chosen by the PGA National as the European Tour Venue for three consecutive years between 1999 and 2001. The golf course is famed for its great fairways and brilliantly manicured greens. The course measures over 7,000 yards from the championship tees and features some 11 lakes. To top it all, waiting at the end of your golf round is the grand colonial style Clubhouse that can take orders by telephone from every hole.

Hesketh Golf Course

18 holes, 72 par, 6649 yards. Links / Woodland.

Established in 1885, The Hesketh is the oldest club in Southport and is regularly chosen for Final Qualifying when The Open arrives across town at Royal Birkdale. Part links and part parkland, the distinctive challenge of the course is that half of the holes meander through tall sand dunes, while the other half border the Ribble estuary. Some of the best holes lie between the sandhills and the clubhouse, particularly the 18th, an impressive, lengthy finishing hole.

Hillside

18 holes, 72 par, 6850 yards. Links.

Hillside Golf Course is a fantastic example of a great links course. Set amongst large dunes and pine trees creating a beautiful course described by Greg Norman as having the best back nine holes in Britain. Strong winds coming in from the Irish Sea make for tricky approach shots to the more sheltered greens, and also give rise to some spectacular views along the coastline. Measuring at over 8,800-yards in total, this is truly a course that will test even the most advanced golfers, and is a must play for anyone in the region.

Royal Birkdale

18 holes, 72 par, 6690 yards. Links.

Founded in 1889, the Royal Birkdale Golf Club really needs no introduction. Measuring 6,690-yards, this par-72 course has been host to The Open Championship on eight occasions. Always a challenge, particularly when it’s windy, the Royal Birkdale Golf Club is a must for all aspiring golfers. A round on the Royal Birkdale will don disappoint and remain in your memory for years to come as one of your most enjoyable rounds, no matter how you play.
