Royal Liverpool Golf Course

18 holes, 72 par, 6909 yards. Links.

Built in 1869 on the edge of the Dee shores and against the backdrop of the distant Welsh hills, Royal Liverpool is a fine place to sense the history and traditions of the game and walk in the fairways of famous men. Home of the 2006 Open Championship, the course may at first appear to look flat and benign, but don't let this be deceiving as in recent years golf architect Donald Steel has been commissioned, with great success, to restore and elevate the course to modern championship standards.

Wallasey Golf Course

18 holes, 72 par, 6503 yards. Links.

Originally designed by Tom Morris, Wallasey is a worthy test of golf, which is due in part to the prevailing north westerly winds and variety of holes made all the more interesting by the natural undulations of the terrain. In 1914, Dr. Frank Stableford became a member and on the 2nd tee stands a plaque erected to commemorate the place where he devised the point scoring system that bears his name.

Formby Golf Club

18 holes, 72 par, 6993 yards. Links / Woodland.

Founded in 1884, Formby lays claim to the toughest par 3s' to be found anywhere, with accuracy and concentration being the prerequisites for every hole. Heather and rough form a natural boundary to the undulating fairways and combine with bunkers, sandhills and firm fast greens to provide a great test. The golf club has a distinguished record for hosting many top amateur events, including The Amateur in 1984 when Jose-Maria Olazabal beat Colin Montgomerie in the final.

Formby Ladies Golf Course

18 holes, 71 par, 5374 yards. Links.

A true test of links golf, located inside the famous Formby Golf Club. Greg Norman said it was the perfect example of how a golf course did not need to be over 7000 yards to be a challenge. Tight fairways, tough greens, and the famous England's Golf Coast wind, equate to a fun few hours.

Formby Hall Golf Club, Lancashire

Formby Hall Golf Course

18 holes, 72 par, 7002 yards. Parkland with lakes.

Formby Golf Club consists of an excellent parkland course on England’s golf coast. The golf course was chosen by the PGA National as the European Tour Venue for three consecutive years between 1999 and 2001. The golf course is famed for its great fairways and brilliantly manicured greens. The course measures over 7,000 yards from the championship tees and features some 11 lakes. To top it all, waiting at the end of your golf round is the grand colonial style Clubhouse that can take orders by telephone from every hole.

Hesketh Golf Course

18 holes, 72 par, 6649 yards. Links / Woodland.

Established in 1885, The Hesketh is the oldest club in Southport and is regularly chosen for Final Qualifying when The Open arrives across town at Royal Birkdale. Part links and part parkland, the distinctive challenge of the course is that half of the holes meander through tall sand dunes, while the other half border the Ribble estuary. Some of the best holes lie between the sandhills and the clubhouse, particularly the 18th, an impressive, lengthy finishing hole.
