Orlando Magic

By Adam Shaw, Product Executive

When the city of Orlando is mentioned, many things come to mind – Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, Orlando Magic, and the list goes on. However, on my recent trip to the “happiest place on Earth”, I discovered the real reason for any golfer to go to Orlando – the fantastic standard of golf on offer.

With great golfing weather for most of the year, direct flights from major UK airports, and simply stunning accommodation and golf options, we are now offering very affordable golfing breaks to Orlando, which offer so much more than your usual European golf break.

Our advice is to stay on the South side of the City, where International Drive, Lake Buena Vista and Kissimmee are located, and where the majority of the Championship courses in the area are found. If you travel with a group of 4 or more, the best option is to get a condo or apartment; as they are, like most things on the other side of the pond, huge. We offer Lake Buena Vista Resort, and Vista Cay, both of which have 3 bedroom apartments that can easily fit 4 people with all their golfing gear, and still leave you space to relax in your living room area (or Jacuzzi bath if you are lucky enough to get the master bedroom).

You are then all set to take on the likes of Grand Cypress Golf Club where you might see Tiger Woods testing out the latest Nike gear, or the fantastic golf available within the grounds of Disney World, which hosts its very own PGA tour event every year. We also recommend trying out the idyllic Celebration Golf Club, with its individual style of 19th century decoration and an aqua-driving range, full of island greens. For those of you with lower handicaps, or the braver higher handicappers, Grande Pines provides arguably the toughest test of golf in the region. Unlike its European counterparts, all green fees will include complimentary buggies, and more often than not, range balls and water. These little extras highlight the quality service the Americans really pride themselves on.

Reunion Resort 5*, Orland & Florida

For a very luxurious resort-based break, Reunion Resort is second to none within Orlando. Our advice is to take one of the villas located in the centre of the resort, where there are 1 bedroom and 3 bedroom accommodations available. From this base you can enjoy the 3 wonderful courses by Nicklaus, Watson and Palmer, as well as the enormous water park and superb restaurants located on site (look out for the rooftop bar giving great views of Orlando and the fireworks at night).

In the evenings I headed down to the Universal Studios – City Walk, where there is a vast array of bars and clubs to cap your day of golf, as well as the largest Hard Rock café in the World. If you are on International Drive, the Pointe also offers some great live music venues and plenty of restaurants to taste the local (and some not so local) cuisine.

To go and play golf in the USA, you need to hire a car, simple as that. See the travel extras area of our website to book your car online. We picked up a car for 10 days for less than £200. Via our travel extras page you can also check out the latest flight deals to Orlando via our flight partner, Sky Scanner, there are some great details available. Lookout for deals with Virgin who are now offering free golf club carriage.
