Be tempted by Turkey
Gill Hamilton - newsletter editor
Golf in Turkey continues to go from strength to strength, having been voted IAGTO European golf destination of the year 2008. Indeed, almost everyone I’ve met who has experienced golf in Belek raves about it, and most golfers I speak to have a trip to Turkey on their wish list.
So what’s the big deal?
- Well the weather for one. The Belek region of Turkey is a great travel destination all year round – even in winter the average temperature of 17oC making it perfect for that winter golf escape.
- Flights are great value and only 5 hours from the UK.
My spies tell me that certain low cost airlines are flying from London to Antalya in December from as little as £80 return
- The standard of the accommodation and golf courses are top notch – and the majority offer all inclusive packages making them great value for money. The 3 main resorts we work with in the Belek region are all 5*, have golf courses onsite and are perfect for both individuals and golfing groups -

“Drive for show and putt for dough” is a well known cry following an uncharacteristically straight drive...and we at Golfbreaks.com couldn’t agree more. How the pros stand over a 20 foot putt on the last to win life changing amounts of money and get it anywhere near the hole is beyond me but what about getting it right over a season!! Fifty one tournaments to be precise, that’s what it takes to be a contender in The Race to Dubai.
It all started on the 6th Nov 2008 in China at Sheshan International GC with Sergio Garcia opening the proceedings with a win of €650,382. Since then there have been another forty eight tournaments which will have visited 27 destinations across the world by the end of the season with player’s earnings reaching over €1 million. The lucky overall winner of The Race to Dubai stands to win The Harry Vardon Trophy and $1,500,000 from the $7,500,000 bonus pool but “winning” doesn’t end there.
Those European Tour players ranked in the top 60 (based on prize money won over the season) automatically qualify to play for Dubai World Championship presented by DP World. This will be played on the 19th November 2009 on the Earth course (Jumeirah Golf Estates) in the first competitive game ever played on the course. This highly anticipated addition to the golfing Mecca of Dubai stretches over 7,700 yards long with dramatic bunkering, 20 lakes and over 3500 trees to give a more mature feel. The final four holes measure 1,760 yards or exactly 1 mile. The lucky winner stands to win $1,250,000.
With all the major European heavyweight players getting down to the business end of the season it’s going to be unmissable viewing
I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Be inspired by Dubai..
