Explore the Nicklaus Golf Trail at Polaris World
The Polaris World resorts, which include La Torre and Mar Menor have proved to be real winners amongst golfers in 2009 with record numbers of you choosing to play the Nicklaus Golf Trail. This now includes the Condado de Alhama Signature Course – designed by Jack Nicklaus himself.
So what’s the secret to their popularity?
Well the recipe for success is simple – a selection of fantastic golf courses combined with high quality accommodation all for highly competitive prices. Added to this, Polaris World is just a short drive from Murcia airport, where a multitude of low cost airlines fly to. A golf break here often works out better value than a golfing trip within the UK, not to mention the average year round temperature is 21 degrees Celsius.
Where you can play:
The standard of golf on the Nicklaus Golf Trail is world class. The five 18-hole championship courses have been created by the Jack Nicklaus design company, who are responsible for some of the most amazing new courses in recent times. The Nicklaus Golf Trail at La Torre will also include the Jack Nicklaus signature course ‘Condado de Alhama’, which opens mid-December 2009.
La Torre: 18-hole par 68 Parkland, designed to be similar to Florida's resort courses, has lush green fairways and a network of lakes to challenge visiting golfers. It has very few trees and lots of sand. At 5,400 meters it is a course where accuracy and strategy are fundamental.
Hacienda Riquelme: 18-hole par 72 Links style parkland golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. One of the newest additions to the trail, this course presents many challenges including wind, water and many bunkers. The course is relatively long, which makes it a very interesting test of golf.
El Valle: This 18-hole par 71 desert style golf course was designed by Jack Nicklaus. Set in a desert valley, you have the impression of being in Arizona, with small dunes and elevated views over the desert. Fantastic!
Mar Menor: With an original design by David Thomas and an extension modeled by Nicklaus Design, it is finally a par 72, 18-hole course. The course has a tendency of having soft contours and good recovery areas accompanied by wide bunkers but easy to get out of.
Condado de Alhama Signature course: Set in traditional Murcian landscape and including dramatic bunkering and smaller greens than usual for a Nicklaus course, this is the gem in the Nicklaus golf trail. At over 7,500 yards from the back tees with a par of 72, this Championship layout is set to become one of the very best in the whole region. It also features 4 lakes and some noticeable changes in elevation, making it one of the best looking golf courses in all of Spain

Update on Golf Live 2010
If you’ve had your ear to the grape vine, you may have already heard about this highly anticipated golf event. If not, let us fill you in: next year golfing enthusiasts will not only be able watch some of the worlds’ leading golfers in action, but they will also be able to get up close and personal with them at what is set to be a truly unique and memorable golfing experience. From May 14th - 16th 2010, Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire will host the first ever Golf LIVE event, which gives golfers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to interact and engage with some well known faces from golf and television.
Golf LIVE is a totally new concept masterminded by Brand Events in association with IMG – the world’s leading sports marketing group. A maximum of 4,000 visitors each day will have the opportunity to attend various skills theatres on the course hosted by professionals including Colin Montgomerie, Paul Casey, Retief Goosen and Ian Poulter. It is all about interaction, education and entertainment. When you purchase a daily ticket you are given a pre-allocated time to attend Monty’s Masterclass and in between, you can book a lesson with a top PGA professional or mind coach, learn at first hand Tour players’ tricks of the trade or sign up for a custom fitting session with Callaway, TaylorMade, Nike, Yonex and many of the other leading club manufacturers. There will also be ample time to visit the Short Game and Bunker Theatre, Mid Iron and Recovery, Tee Shots, Retail Village and the Competition Zone. The day concludes with an unforgettable Grand Finale featuring Montgomerie and many of the other leading golfers and celebrities.
Event ambassador and 2010 Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie said -
“Golf Live is a unique and exciting concept. Not only will it provide amateur golfers with an action packed golfing day out, it will also allow them to get closer than ever before to tournament professionals and learn about how we play the game. I don’t know of any other golf event that will provide such spectacular entertainment and instruction”.
In addition to the on-course events, Golf LIVE will feature a golf hub, where Golfbreaks.com will be amongst several other leading golfing brands promoting everything that any passionate golfer needs, from golf travel advice for the UK and abroad, to state-of-the-art custom club fitting, to the latest high tech and innovative golfing gadgets - a real golfers paradise!
At Golfbreaks.com we’re very excited about this new concept in golf events. Keith Mitchell, Golfbreaks.com’s Director of Product & Marketing says -
“We’re delighted to be involved with this exciting project in the early stages. Brand Events has already had success with the likes of Top Gear Live and The Taste Festivals, and we expect Golf Live to be equally as good - if not better. Not only will Golf Live provide another great opportunity for us to spend time with our customers, but will also allow everyone who attends the opportunity to see and raise questions to some of the world’s leading golfer’s before the Ryder Cup.”
Commenting on Golfbreaks.com’s involvement, James Goode, the Event Director said:
“It’s with great pleasure that I confirm that Golfbreaks.com has signed up as a partner of Golf LIVE. It’s excellent news for the event to have the market leader in golf travel on board allowing Golf LIVE ticket holders access to a wide range of deals not available anywhere else.”
Watch this space and, thanks to our spies, we’ll be the first to keep you up-to-date with any news as it unfolds – including how to get your hands on tickets from February 1 2010!
