Hunting Course at Slaley Hall Details

Golf at Slaley Hall

There are two fantastic venues at Slaley Hall Golf Club – the Hunting Course and the Priestman Course, both of which have hosted PGA European Tour events and are consistently maintained to a high standard.

Hunting Course at Slaley Hall

18 holes, 72 par, 7000 yards. Parkland.

Considered by many as the ‘Number One’ course at Slaley Hall, the Hunting is kept in fantastic condition, and at over 7,000-yards off the yellow tees, the big hitters will have a slight advantage around this track. Designed by David Thomas, the fairways roll beautifully through the surrounding moorland of the region, which may distract you from your game at times. Focus is important though, as the strategically placed bunkers, lakes and streams make shot selection important, not to mention the need for care around the greens which are of USGA standard, making the golf course thoroughly enjoyable but equally challenging.

Starter and pro shop staff very helpful. Course was quiet and in good condition despite a lot of rain. Course probably too difficult for all but the very best amateur players. No idea how to play the 13 th hole , unless you can carry the pond . Probably about 270 yd carry required. You have little idea of how far to the pond . !8th hole is another difficult and not great hole. You have no idea what to hit in order to get close enough to the stream in order to have a chance of reaching the green. Even then you are required to play an extremely difficult shot as you are on an extreme downslope and have to play over a stream and up to the green. I personally thought the front 9 was far superior to back 9. Back 9 seemed very ordinary -just a long slog.
