South Course, Guadalmina Club de Golf Details

Golf at Hotel Guadalmina Spa & Golf Resort

Both courses at Guadalmina Golf Resort are renonwed on the Costa del Sol as two of the finest in the Marbella area. The South course was designed by Javier Arana in 1959 and is the sterner test of the two, with tight tree-lined fairways and greens. The North couse, built in 1973 by Folco Nardi, features many water hazards through a more undaluated layout.

South Course, Guadalmina Club de Golf

    18 holes, 72 par, 6683 yards. Links / Woodland.

This is the second oldest course on the coast and is a real test of accuracy. Many of the tees require precise placement on the fairway due to the private gardens surrounding the course. The 14th can challenge even the lowest handicappers as tall pines line the hole, with a strategically placed bunker in front of the green, waiting to swallow up anything short.

South Course, Guadalmina Club de Golf Location

San Pedro de Alcantara (10kms from Puerto Banus and Marbella).

Difficult to comment really. The course was in very good condition, very well maintained and we were not held up or pushed. Finding our way around was a bit awkward at times and there was no course plan available. However, the course management in relation to play needs a shake up !! We were given tee times we were not happy with, which we did not ask for, and some on a course we did not want to play, despite having booked some months in advance. We were told the courses were extremely busy and booked for the times we preferred and nothing could be done, but amazingly after creating a bit of a fuss we were able to change them at the golf desk within the hotel and the course was certainly not busy. The first tee is at the club house at Guadalmina North course. There is no courtesy transfer available but we were offered private transfer by Golfbreaks at exhorbitant prices, which fortunately we declined. NOT NECESSARY for either of the Guadalmina courses. The pro shop at the Guadalmina hotel is struggling with the new golf management at the golf desk by the reception desk within the hotel, but the lady who runs the shop is extremely helpful. Tee times are either from tee 11 outside the pro shop at the hotel or tee 1 adjacent to the north course club house. Buggies are provided at the pro shop and it is no more than an easy 12-15 minutes drive across the course to Tee 1, which we found out by accident fortunately prior to booking any transfer. The pro shop closes at around 1.30-2.00 pm and amazingly there seemed to be no more players leaving from tee 11 after that so the tee times do appear to be poorly managed. There is now a notice in the hotel foyer outside the golf desk indicating that buggies are available.
