Clube de Golf Santo da Serra Details

Clube de Golf Santo da Serra introduction

Three loops of nine make up this course that never fails to impress. Having hosted the Madeira Open for 16 years, it has got to be a firm favourite when in Madeira.

Clube de Golf Santo da Serra information

    18 holes, 72 par, 6047 yards. Clifftop.

Sitting high above the bay of Machico, the Santo da Serra Golf Club offers the keen golfer an ideal spot to enjoy stunning views and beautiful golf courses. The original course, first designed way back in 1937, was completely redesigned in 1991 by the renowned Robert Trent Jones and now represents one of the key golfing destinations in Madeira. Split into three distinctive loops of nine, each one offers a varying selection of challenges. The Machico and Desertas courses have played host to the Madeira Island Open and with the Serras Course offering an easier test, it is no less stunning. Utilising the natural environment and combining lakes, trees and sand, the courses at Santo da Serra are designed to be enjoyed rather than fought.

The weather in Madeira is measured at sea level, though the golf course at Santo da Serra is at altitude, making it 4-5 degrees cooler and more windy. The greens are fast and beautifully maintained, and the views are breathtaking. The people were friendly, and accommodating. The course is quite hilly, so expect some quite strong uphill lies!
