Europe has always been a well-established destination for a golf holiday. Visit Spain or Portugal for sun, sea and sand along with picturesque golf courses and resorts. France is just a short hop across the channel for that European golf break and not forgetting the up and coming destinations of Cyprus and Turkey, making Europe the elite golfing region.
Renowned for its many attractions including the D-Day beaches and the Bayeaux tapestry, Normandy is also a superb golfing destination. The pretty town of Deauville is very popular, especially the superb Hotel du Golf Barriere. Omaha Beach and Amiraute offer very different golfing experiences – one being coastal, the latter in a gloriously wooded location – while further inland, don’t miss the superb value and truly authentic golf hotel Saint-Saens.
Golf on the Lisbon coast needs no introduction, with big-name designers having produced some of the best golf in Portugal. Former Portuguese Open host Penha Longa and the ever-popular Quinta da Marinha are both picturesque Robert Trent Jones layouts, or if you want something a little more rugged and linksy, Oitavos Dunes and Praia d'El Rey will certainly not disappoint. Both are in Europe’s Top 100 and should be on any Lisbon golf itinerary.
