Donnington Valley Golf Course Details

Golf at Donnington Valley Hotel and Spa

A challenging parkland layout set in beautiful Berkshire countryside, Donnington Valley is always very popular with Golfbreaks.com customers... not least because of its memorable closing holes back towards the Grade II listed clubhouse.

Donnington Valley Golf Course

18 holes, 71 par, 6353 yards. Parkland.

Donnington Valley Hotel and Spa, in Newbury, Berkshire had its beautiful 18 hole parkland golf course re-designed and lengthened between 1998 and 2000 and is now a challenging 6,353 yards, par 71 course from the back tees. Although some of the holes are quite forgiving the closing four holes are regarded as one of the toughest finishes in the country, with water featuring prominently on 15th, 16th and 17th holes. The clubhouse, Snelsmore House, a Grade II listed Victorian building overlooks the 9th/18th green and offers golfers exceptional golfing and social facilities with its two bars.

Large group of men out in front of us on Sunday, some of whom didn't have a clue about slow play or course etiquette.
Pro-shop very helpful

There had been very heavy rain before we came but some bunkers not in a good condition. Not raked or marked GUR despite being full of water. Course its self was fine.

Course let down by very slow play - round took 5 hours on first day. On second day we went from 3rd tee to 7th as it was again very slow, thereby getting ahead of the other people out playing. From then on we literally had the course to ourselves. So - very few tee times booked presumably of those allocated to members early in the day, but tee-times for golf breaks members fully booked leading to a logjam. Also tried to book an electric trolley on the first day but apparently they only have two and they had gone.
Otherwise clubhouse ok but nothing special. Food OK. Staff friendly and helpful enough.
