A round of golf on any of the golf courses at The Celtic Manor Resort is guaranteed to be an exciting one and a great test for all golfers. Not only is The Celtic Manor home to the superb Twenty Ten Ryder Cup golf course, but it also boasts other stunning championship golf courses which each hold a different  challenge to suit all types of golfer.

Roman Road

18 holes, 69 par, 6515 yards. Parkland.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr and opened in 1995, this golf course was named after the many Roman roads crossing through the course and was designed carefully so not to disrupt any of the remains. With stunning views across to Somerset and Devon and overlooking the Severn Estuary, this golf course hosted the Celtic Manor Wales Open from 2005 to 2007, as well as the star-studded All Star Cup in 2005 and 2006. It has also been ranked ‘the top inland course in Wales’ by Golf Monthly Magazine.

The par 70 golf course varies from long open fairways and dramatic descents on the front nine, to a back nine that twists and turns through trees and across lakes and streams. There is a mix of long and short holes, the most memorable being the long par three 8th with plenty of trees to frame the hole, and the dog-leg par four 14th hole. We recommend you hire a buggy as the undulating fairways can be a tough walk.

The Montgomerie

18 holes, 69 par, 6294 yards. Parkland.

Designed by Ryder Cup Legend Colin Montgomerie, the first and last holes of this challenging par 69 parkland golf course were based on the foundation of the original Wentwood Hills golf course, with the land from the old Coldra Woods Academy course being used to construct the fascinating layout of The Montgomerie.

Featuring deep pot bunkering and some tricky greenside swales, this golf course has plenty of natural hazards and an “inland links” feel to it and with The Montgomerie course being all downhill, it certainly makes it a tough but exciting test of skill. Furthermore, golfers playing on The Montgomerie golf course can expect spectacular views and breathtaking tee shots over the valleys, certainly making this championship golf course one to remember, with the most memorable hole being the par four 10th, with a lake just before the green.

Twenty Ten Course

18 holes, 71 par, 7493 yards. Parkland.

First of its kind, this golf course was specifically designed by Ross McMurray for the 2010 Ryder Cup. It opened in 2007 and measures an impressive 7,493 yards off the back tees and has a par of 71. Set in the dramatic Usk Valley, this golf course will provide your golf game with variety and challenges, from more ‘links’ like holes to challenging water hazards. It includes six signature holes and was designed to test even the best golfers, where risk-taking is essential to getting a good score. The particularly difficult 18th hole will push golfers to the limit, with a long sloping fairway and a river just in front of the green, making chipping accuracy to be an essential skill. This golf course at Celtic Manor was more than worthy of hosting the 2010 Ryder Cup.

Did you know?

The Twenty Ten golf course is the first course in history to have been designed specifically to host golf’s most prestigious tournament, The Ryder Cup. It includes no fewer than six signature holes and was designed to provide a challenge to the world’s best golfers in match play conditions.
