Golf and Spa – the perfect combination

by Gill Hamilton 26. May 2011 20:26

Whichever way you look at it, golf and spas are an ideal combination. Let me present a couple of scenarios to you to demonstrate how beneficial it can be:

1) Guilt-free golf

You want to get out onto the course more, but always there’s that sense that you should be at home helping out around the house. Why not treat your other-half to a trip to a spa? That way you can escape to the course safe in the knowledge that everyone is enjoying themselves. Treat her regularly to some pampering spa treatments and never again feel guilty for taking a cheeky round after work…

2) Relax off-course / beat those golfer’s injuries

How often have you suffered from a golfer’s injury – back strain perhaps? Shoulder issues? Suffering from tired feet after going round a particularly lengthy course?

Almost every golfer I have ever met (bar the juniors) has, at some point in their golfing career, injured themselves playing golf (particularly memorable was a chap I met on a golf day who had done his back in playing the day before. He came along against his doctor’s advice and the without the approval of his wife to play on the day and had to lie down on the buggy between each shot!). Soothe away the strains of the round and relax those tense muscles with a visit to the spa afterwards. Saunas, Jacuzzi’s and steam rooms are all proven to aid with muscular issues (not to mention a good sweat rids your body of any toxins you might have acquired at the 19th hole…), swimming is a gentle way to manipulate tender joints and any good spa with experienced therapists will be able to recommend specialist treatments to help with more specific ailments. So go on – treat yourself! Your body will thank you for it.

3) Something you can both share

Kick-back with your other half and relax in a bubbling Jacuzzi, a glass of champagne in hand whilst you admire the sweeping views across the golf course, enjoying the shared experience and each other’s company… Or why not enjoy a treatment together in a double treatment room, followed by a romantic dinner in the excellent restaurants that grace these golf and spa hotels and enjoy a late glass of claret before retiring to bed….

Sound tempting? In my humble opinion, a visit to a Golf & Spa hotel is definitely better enjoyed together.

4) Putting the ‘man’ into ‘manicure

More and more spas are recognising that there is demand from gents visiting spas, and as such most offer specialist male spa treatments, and some even offer male only sections.

Find out why they’re becoming so popular – why not book a spa and golf break for yourself.

Although originally from Canada, I moved to England when I was 5 and currently live in Windsor right next door to the Queen (ok, not right next door, but if you lean out of an upstairs window and tilt your head to the left you can just about make out the castle!). I work at BookaSpa.com, which is part of Golfbreaks.com, as the Website and Marketing Manager which means that I’m the person who makes sure our website is looking tip top, and I’m the one spreading the word about how fantastic BookaSpa is. Other perks of the job include getting out and visiting some absolutely superb spas, which I would never be able to afford normally, so I can let you know all about them. It’s a hard life, but someone’s got to do it! I have worked for the same company for over 5 years, and before I helped launch BookaSpa I worked in the Golfbreaks.com marketing department and before that in Customer Service helping people with the golf breaks. I love all things spa, so this job really is perfect for me. My favourite treatments include hot stone massages (absolutely blissful) and Indian Head massages. At the moment I am a bit obsessed with GELeration by Jessica – gel style manicures which last about 6 weeks without a chip and without damaging the nails. Incredible. I’m all about minimum effort beauty so this suits me perfectly! My favourite spa I’ve visited is the Bath House Spa at the Royal Crescent in Bath because it’s in such a beautiful building. When I’m not in the spa, I love going to the cinema, reading and animals. I love to travel and next on my hit list to visit is Vietnam. Oh, and in case you are interested in such things, I’m a Pisces.

Wow this looks class. Once I become a better golfer this is the kind of holiday I am going to go for each and every year.

Hi was nice to read your post. Unfortunately my golf days are over as my shoulder injury seems to be one that is not going to last for a few weeks only. To bad but I think it is my own fualt anyway. Just a good tip for anybody who wants to join Golf longer stop immideatly when you feel pain in your should. If you keep on swinging you will regret it sooner or late!

Cheers

Hey Gill,
I really envy you getting to try out spas!   I was wondering what type of massage you would recommend for golf stresses?

That sounds like an amazing place to go to. Nothing would be better than golf and relaxing at a spa Smile

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments.

For a golfer, I would recommend considering a sports massage, where the therapist will be able to focus specically on your muscle groups that need the work. Not only will it ease aches and pains gained through perfecting your swing, it should also help develop weak muscles that are essential for improving your golf game.
