A fam trip to The Vale Resort, Wales

by DeanBennett 17. May 2011 23:35

When Dean Bennett, a member of our Customer Service team, went on a whistle stop tour to Wales to visit The Vale Resort on a sunny weekend, he took note of some useful information and tips for when visiting this venue.

One of the many perks of going on a fam trip (a familiarization trip) is that we are fortunate enough to play on some superb golf courses. When visiting The Vale, it was a beautiful sunny day and we were raring to tackle a round on The Wales National, one of the longest courses outside of the USA!! The Wales National course provided a rather interesting challenge for the whole group, which were a mixture of all sorts of handicaps. As a beginner golfer, I found the par 3 14th a really interesting hole. After landing the tee shot from a raised platform off of the green, a delightful chip sank for the only birdie of the round!! Another fascinating hole was the 175 yard 3rd where one of my playing partners came inches from an elusive hole in one! Being a long course, renting one of The Vale’s large fleet of buggies is highly recommended. Many of the holes are dog legged with one of most challenging being the 17th where a drive sliced right will leave you out of bounds.

Moving on to the hotel….. The Vale offers a great standard of 4* accommodation with upgrades available to suit all desires. A ground floor room in the Hensol wing offers an attractive patio that looks onto the Lakes course. The La Cucina restaurant can be found the clubhouse and is the perfect place for groups of golfers to enjoy fine yet wholesome locally sourced food. After our interesting round on the Wales International, the clubhouse was a great place to relax and the extensive patio area became a real sun trap.

One of the many things I noticed at The Vale was the friendly faces that always await residents and all the staff were extremely kind and helpful. The enthusiasm of the pro shop manager transfers through to the rest of the golf team and the starter provided us with lots of much needed useful tips about the courses!

My top Tips when taking a golf break to The Vale Resort:

  • For groups looking to enjoy The Vale’s nightlife, the clubhouse and hotel bars will close at 11pm every evening; however the Salamanza bar stays open until the last person leaves!
  • Many a fam trip isn’t a memorable one without some of the groups getting lost on the way….so…..ensure to get the correct postcode for the satellite navigation system, the resort’s postcode will take you to down a country track to the very centre of the grounds whilst the hotel postcode will lead you to the correct destination. The hotel often receives phone calls from residents lost in the Glamorganshire countryside!
  • If travelling West along the M4, some satellite navigation systems will attempt to send you into Cardiff to get to the resort. However, staying put and then leaving at junction 34 leaves you minutes from the hotel.

Overall, The Vale Resort made us all feel extremely welcome and the facilities we experienced were second to none, letting us rest assured that our Golfbreaks.com and Teeofftimes.co.uk clients will have a wonderful time here.
