As I’m sure some of my colleagues who were present will be doing - I find myself writing a review about part of a lovely weekend away I had at Marriott Worsley Park Hotel and Country Club.
Upon our arrival, my colleagues and I were greeted by some extremely friendly hotel staff, who were as excited as us to be there. We were all given one of the hotel's signature bacon rolls, cut from a freshly cooked joint of ham, which put me in a very appreciative and positive mood for the golf ahead of us. 2 cups of tea later, and I was ready to get on the course.
The course is quite possibly the nicest course I've had the pleasure of playing this year, and to be honest - you can see why. Designed by Ross McMurray, the designer of this year’s epic 2010 Ryder Cup course at Celtic Manor, the course proves to be no less of a beauty or challenge than I expected. Coming in at a tricky par 71, I was always going to be up against it!

The fairways were immaculate for the whole length of the course, and are easily the best looked after fairways I’ve seen this year, and up there in the best I’ve played on. The golf buggies we were provided with were kept in perfect condition, and the well placed network of paths allows swift travel from hole to hole - ideal if you're in a rush or just aren't a fan of walking from hole to hole.
You'll find yourself tested and rewarded on this course, with some holes providing alternate paths to the green that can be fruitful if played well, or disastrous if you're lacking consistency (like myself!). The standout hole of the course for me personally was the 15th. A tricky par-4 at 380 yards that initially seems easy, but then you notice the large pond defending the green. A well placed tee shot puts you in that spot where a lay-up is the sensible option, but shooting for the green is possible, and tempting. It's safe to say the 4-ball I was in lost quite a few golf balls to this hole!

Although my stay was brief, I had the pleasure of seeing some of the hotel grounds, and suffice to say - I wished I was staying there that night. The spikes bar provided us with some post-game relaxation, and the staff was more than happy to arrange the bar around our large Golfbreaks contingent so that we were well looked after. A large, well-stocked pro shop was present, although my attention was constantly being stolen from the number of celebrities and personalities that were walking around the grounds. Of particular note on the non-golf side was the roast beef I had for dinner - a must if you're staying for dinner!
Overall, I was extremely happy with my brief stay at Worsley Park. There was nothing to fault with the day and it's absolutely on my list of courses to play again in the future. A must play if you live in the North West and fancy treating yourself to a game you'll enjoy and remember for some time to come!
