Women's Golf Clothing Through the Ages

by Elly Russell 28. July 2011 23:52

We are now in an age where gender is becoming less of an issue in any aspect of the modern world – politics, culture, business all include equal rights and respect for both men and women. This is also becoming more prominent in the sporting world; female athletes are being recognised more for their capabilities, strengths and breaking records. This is also occurring in the world of golf. It has been known that golf stood for Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden. Well that old wives tale has been dead and buried as more female golfers are rising to the challenge and showing incredible talent. Along with this, so has the progression of golfing attire over the decades.

Golf has always been a sport with a more dignified, classier edge; from the style of play to the formality of the rules. This has also been reflected in the clothes that were deemed ‘appropriate’ to wear on a golf course. The generation of Mickey Wright and Kathy Whitworth saw golf clothing for women more for comfort and style, rather than enhancing sporting ability.

The Ultimate Tuition Break winners experience so far

by Chris Hughman 14. June 2011 19:49

When Chris Hughman and Nick Blunt won the superb Ultimate Tuition Break prize, we asked them if they could blog about their experiences. Over the next few months they will be working with the likes of JJ Rivet, biomechanics expert for some of the top European Tour golfers, and Simon Holmes, world renowned golf coach and Sky Sports commentator. By the end of their 5 month intensive training course both golfers will have improved their health, fitness and, ultimately, their golf handicap – just in time for their appearance in the Portugal Masters Pro Am in October...

Here is Chris' rundown of the launch of the programme at Celtic Manor..

If the prize that myself and Nick had won was simply a night in the hotel at Celtic Manor and a round on the Roman Road course, I would have been chuffed to say the least.  Celtic Manor is simply a fantastic golfing experience.  From the second you see the stunning hotel looming over the M4, it’s clear what an extraordinary resort your heading to.  The Roman Road golf course was immaculate with a nice variation of holes, and to put it into perspective, the tees were comparable to the greens I’m used to putting on!  The Hotel is first class, the food is amazing, and just to stand next to the 18th green on the 2010 course, the scene of so much drama in last year’s victorious Ryder Cup brings home what a special destination Celtic Manor is.

Grace

by Lawrence Tatlock 26. January 2011 00:41

On my shoulder sits a demon, for the purpose of this tale I will call her Grace.

Grace knows all my faults and weaknesses. She is a constant reminder of these flaws. She is the girl I loathe and crave in the same breath. Her beauty leads me to temptation. She torments me always. More...

Garmin Approach S1 review

by Arorat 20. January 2011 01:09

I started playing golf about 12 months ago. Our group then booked an overnight golf trip with dinner/breakfast to Avisford Park via Golfbreaks.com and after the 2 rounds I was bitten by the golf bug … and a mosquito. On my return I went out and got a decent Nicklaus set; shoes, trousers and some waterproofs and then the training and short games began. More...

Fair weather golfer!

by Kris Lyons 23. November 2010 18:01

With the piercing cold starting to settle in, I find myself avoiding the outside, and in-turn - golf. Bit of a fair weather golfer!

However - despite the slowdown in the amount of rounds I’m carding - I still find excuses to purchase extravagant (albeit unnecessary) bits of kit for my club bag. I'm going to go through a new pair of Oakley Half Jacket XLJ Golf Array sunglasses I've recently bought, and a brief mention of the new Odyssey Backstryke putter that I had the fortune of borrowing from my Dad a few weeks ago for a round.  More...
