Bacon Roll Up: No.1 Foxhills Club and Resort

by RobSaunders 8. February 2012 18:08

Exterior at Foxhills Golf Course

So my journey to find the finest golf club bacon roll in the south and south east of England begins on a bright and very chilly Friday morning at Foxhills Club and Resort. Local to my girlfriend in Virginia Water it is a golf club I have grown very familiar with over recent years and it seemed appropriate to start my exploration on friendly soil.

Having thrashed out an hour of high powered talks with golf operations guys Sean and Richard I wasted no time in marching to Bar Nineteen to appease my salivation. I have long been a fan of the pre and post golf facilities here and Bar Nineteen was once again its cosy yet vibrant self. More...

The Bacon Roll Up: Introduction

by RobSaunders 17. January 2012 01:59

Bacon Sandwich

Hello, firstly let me introduce myself. I am Rob Saunders and I am an account manager for the UK’s largest online tee booking website Teeofftimes.co.uk. I have the privilege of looking after over 150 golf venues across London, the South and South East. My portfolio encompasses a broad spectrum of golf clubs from your cheap and cheerful municipal course to old fashioned high end members clubs. It is this diversity that keeps my job interesting and allows me to meet all sorts of colourful characters in very different surroundings. There is however one thing that all my clubs have in common and it is one of, if not the most important aspect of my golfing day…..the bacon roll!

Whether served pre, mid or even post round, for me the bacon roll is what defines the golf club, the truest of tone setters. Admittedly the bacon roll is pushed very close by other bar menu heavyweights such as near cousins the sausage and club sandwiches, but for me its beauty is in its aroma and all round simplicity. What a beginner needs to know about golf – written by a 10 handicapper

by Lawrence Tatlock 22. June 2011 20:51

I promised a friend I’d write a blog for people looking to take up golf. That was a couple of weeks ago now and I’ll be honest, I’ve been thinking about all the things I’d need to cover and how difficult it would be to include everything.  So I sat down today and began with a story of my first foray onto the course. Suddenly it all became clear and simple; I had walked onto the first tee with a second hand half set of clubs, wearing trainers with an average golfer as a teacher (sorry Dad). So let’s dispel a couple of myths.

You’re going to need to get all the latest equipment.

As I said, I started with a half set of second hand clubs that were older than me and I’ve had my current set for about 10 years. In fact if you do go out and buy all the latest gear when you’re a beginner, I’m going to call you a plonker. Next! More...

Golf and Spa – the perfect combination

by Gill Hamilton 26. May 2011 20:26

Whichever way you look at it, golf and spas are an ideal combination. Let me present a couple of scenarios to you to demonstrate how beneficial it can be:

1) Guilt-free golf

You want to get out onto the course more, but always there’s that sense that you should be at home helping out around the house. Why not treat your other-half to a trip to a spa? That way you can escape to the course safe in the knowledge that everyone is enjoying themselves. Treat her regularly to some pampering spa treatments and never again feel guilty for taking a cheeky round after work…

2) Relax off-course / beat those golfer’s injuries

How often have you suffered from a golfer’s injury – back strain perhaps? Shoulder issues? Suffering from tired feet after going round a particularly lengthy course?

Almost every golfer I have ever met (bar the juniors) has, at some point in their golfing career, injured themselves playing golf (particularly memorable was a chap I met on a golf day who had done his back in playing the day before. He came along against his doctor’s advice and the without the approval of his wife to play on the day and had to lie down on the buggy between each shot!). More...

My Lad Stan

by RobSaunders 14. February 2011 22:49

At 29 years old I have finally  waved the white flag and lumbered myself with one of those girlfriend type things. If that wasn’t bad enough that without the merest mention of the “L” word, sadly not lager, I have found myself playing out paternal situations in my obviously all over the place head. Like most football kicking, converse wearing, curry eating in the pub type of blokes the child in question is a male, naturally starting life at 5 years old and impeccably behaved. The idea of having a girl does not even exist in most men’s minds and the first few years of life are conveniently packaged off to the same part of our upper brains as the wonky shelf issue in the spare room.  So there I am drifting off with possibly not the most current copy of Nuts magazine and I have an imaginary son to think about. More...

Hole in One

by Jack Evans 4. February 2011 01:42

The most sought after honour in golf is without a doubt the hole in one. It’s so much more than just an eagle; it’s a ‘1’ on the scorecard and it’s the satisfaction of knowing you’ve reached the pinnacle of the sport. At least that’s my opinion. To some golfers it’s just a three-figure bar tab. I myself have never had one, but know many who have. A certain friend has even had 4, something he still claims to be skill and not luck.  More...

Grace

by Lawrence Tatlock 26. January 2011 00:41

On my shoulder sits a demon, for the purpose of this tale I will call her Grace.

Grace knows all my faults and weaknesses. She is a constant reminder of these flaws. She is the girl I loathe and crave in the same breath. Her beauty leads me to temptation. She torments me always. More...
