So my journey to find the finest golf club bacon roll in the south and south east of England begins on a bright and very chilly Friday morning at Foxhills Club and Resort. Local to my girlfriend in Virginia Water it is a golf club I have grown very familiar with over recent years and it seemed appropriate to start my exploration on friendly soil.
Having thrashed out an hour of high powered talks with golf operations guys Sean and Richard I wasted no time in marching to Bar Nineteen to appease my salivation. I have long been a fan of the pre and post golf facilities here and Bar Nineteen was once again its cosy yet vibrant self. More...

Hello, firstly let me introduce myself. I am Rob Saunders and I am an account manager for the UK’s largest online tee booking website Teeofftimes.co.uk. I have the privilege of looking after over 150 golf venues across London, the South and South East. My portfolio encompasses a broad spectrum of golf clubs from your cheap and cheerful municipal course to old fashioned high end members clubs. It is this diversity that keeps my job interesting and allows me to meet all sorts of colourful characters in very different surroundings. There is however one thing that all my clubs have in common and it is one of, if not the most important aspect of my golfing day…..the bacon roll!
Whether served pre, mid or even post round, for me the bacon roll is what defines the golf club, the truest of tone setters. Admittedly the bacon roll is pushed very close by other bar menu heavyweights such as near cousins the sausage and club sandwiches, but for me its beauty is in its aroma and all round simplicity. At 29 years old I have finally waved the white flag and lumbered myself with one of those girlfriend type things. If that wasn’t bad enough that without the merest mention of the “L” word, sadly not lager, I have found myself playing out paternal situations in my obviously all over the place head. Like most football kicking, converse wearing, curry eating in the pub type of blokes the child in question is a male, naturally starting life at 5 years old and impeccably behaved. The idea of having a girl does not even exist in most men’s minds and the first few years of life are conveniently packaged off to the same part of our upper brains as the wonky shelf issue in the spare room. So there I am drifting off with possibly not the most current copy of Nuts magazine and I have an imaginary son to think about. More...

You know when you fall in love. It’s a moment of instantaneous clarity with an immense feeling of giddy well being. I fell in love on Sunday 1st June and the object of my desire.....golf. I had dipped my toe into the game on only a handful of occasions but my feelings had never gone beyond mild lustful yearning. This was all to change as I skulked onto the first tee at the Old Course Vilamoura, I was expecting very little except the odd cut from out of bounds plant life. But what I didn't know at the time was my playing partner was to be cupid. As each hole passed he was pulling his arrow from his Titleist golf bag and driving it straight into the epicentre of my sporting passion. This was golf as it appears on TV this was how it was meant to be, even though it was only our first date I knew I was "putting out" after coffee.
