I recently made my first visit to the Paphos region of Cyprus. After a short flight from Gatwick direct into Paphos airport I picked up my hire car and was very happy to find Elea Golf Club just 15 minutes up the road. In fact during my whole time in the area I found getting around very easy. Paphos town centre is just 20 minutes from all of the venues and the airport, plus driving on the left when overseas is always a bonus!
Elea Golf Club, home to the Sir Nick Faldo designed golf course that opened in late 2010, is all about service. On my arrival at the clubhouse I was warmly greeted by a member of the Golf Services team whilst my clubs were looked after and placed on my buggy for the day. The clubhouse is one of the finest I have visited and if club houses received a star rating it would certainly get the full 5. The locker rooms, restaurant and bar are all first class and sitting on the balcony looking out across the golf course towards the Mediterranean Sea is a fantastic place to be both pre and post golf.
The golf course is in great condition and you can certainly recognise it is a Faldo design. With numerous bunkers and run off areas around the greens, strategy plays a big part in putting together a good score. The course is not overly long but watch out for the finish - holes 17 and 18 are both strong par 4s that will require your long game to be in order if you are to get to the clubhouse victorious.More...
