A hidden gem in the South of France

Bordeaux is another of France’s regions that isn’t typically associated with golf, with the region being more known for the great wine and food it produces. However, golfers will be pleasantly surprised to find that the region has an abundance of superb courses that perfectly complement both the surroundings and the food on offer.

Golf du Medoc is one of Bordeaux’s top golf clubs, it offers golfers two outstanding courses to test their metal on, the Les Châteaux course and Les Vignes course. Les Châteaux is the better known of the two having won the best course in France award back in 2014, it is characterised by its large fairways yet challenging wispy rough. Les Vignes is much more tree-lined requiring golfers to keep the ball straight and out of the trees. Golf du Medoc is widely recognised as one of Bordeaux’s must-play clubs.

Chateau des Vigiers is another notable club in Bordeaux, featuring three courses, Les Vignes, La Vallee and Le Lac. Each course oozes class and really sets the scene of golf in Bordeaux with each course being set in picturesque vineyards. The layouts vary in difficulty yet remain challenging for low handicappers as well as high handicappers.

Why choose Bordeaux for your next golf holiday?

Bordeaux is a city more known for its production of some of the best food and wine in the world rather than for its immaculate golf courses. However, golfers will be pleased to learn that the courses of Bordeaux are beginning to receive more plaudits from the golf community and some truly excellent designs on offer in Bordeaux are beginning to come to the forefront.

Some of the city’s notable courses include the two courses at the excellent Golf du Medoc and the increasingly popular course Souillac Golf & Country Club.

The weather on offer in Bordeaux is among some of the best in France and as it can get rather hot, especially in summer, we recommend you travel during late spring to early summer to ensure you play in comfort and benefit from the prime conditions.

Due to its popularity with wine/food connoisseurs around the world, there is a host of great non-golfing activities to partake including vineyard tours, wine tasting and food tours. Plus, when you consider the range of great accommodation available, Bordeaux has all the makings of an excellent golf holiday choice.
